Wilson hails 'warrior' Barker

Wed 19 Mar, 07:00 PM

Hartlepool boss Danny Wilson has hailed Richard Barker "a warrior" as the influential striker closes in on a return to action. The 32-year-old is currently sidelined with a knee problem but is approaching full fitness ahead of the Easter double-header against Crewe and Yeovil.

Barker has scored 16 goals this season and 25 in total since joining the club in January 2007.

"He's a terrific pro and he sets a great example to the rest of the players," Wilson said. "He's a warrior if you like. That's why we brought him in. He's scored something like 25 goals in the short period of time he's been at the club and I think that's an absolutely fantastic return from our point of view.

"He's got a little bit of knee problem but I'm hoping he'll be back in for the next few games but it's also a test for the rest of the lads to keep him out."

Wilson, meanwhile, has confirmed he is unlikely to sign any players before Thursday's loan deadline.
