DALLAS, Texas (AFP) - Kobe Bryant scored 29 points and Lamar Odom added 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Lakers past Dallas 102-100 in a National Basketball Association thriller on Tuesday.
The Lakers squandered most of a 25-point lead but snapped a two-game losing streak and finished the night 46-21, level with Houston atop the Western Conference, while the Mavericks slid to 44-24, seventh in the West.
Vladimir Radmanovic added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who led 76-51 after a Bryant layup 6:17 into the third quarter but went the next six minutes without a basket from the field.
A 14-1 Dallas run to end the third quarter lifted the Mavericks within 77-65 and a 9-2 run to open the fourth pulled Dallas within 79-74 with 9:36 to play.
Radmanovic's three 3-pointers in an 11-4 run kept Dallas at bay but German star Dirk Nowitzki, who led the Mavericks with 35 points and 11 rebounds, hit a pair of 3-pointers to pull Dallas within 98-97 with 41 seconds remaining.
Radmanovic missed a jumper but Dallas swingman Jerry Stackhouse was whistled for a controversial foul on Odom, whose free throws put the Lakers ahead 100-97.
Two free throws for the Lakers and a 3-pointer by Dallas' Jason Terry with four seconds remaining set the stage for a last-second 3-point effort by Nowitzki, who missed at the buzzer to leave the rally just short.
The Mavericks, who had a five-game win streak snapped, fell to 0-6 against teams with winning records since obtaining guard Jason Kidd from New Jersey.
