Phil Brown's Hull City moved to within five points of the automatic promotion places in the Coca-Cola Championship with a 3-1 win at 10-man Colchester.
Phil Ifil was sent off after just 14 minutes for a wild lunge at Manchester United loanee Fraizer Campbell, and the striker exacted revenge six minutes later with the opener after hesitancy in the home defence.
Campbell (33) made it two from the edge of the box before Kevin Lisbie gave the Us hope four minutes later, but Caleb Folan (87) sealed the points for the Tigers at Layer Road to leave Colchester marooned at the foot of the table.
Neill Collins' header seven minutes from time handed Wolves a 2-1 win over struggling Scunthorpe at Molineux to boost Wanderers' play-off hopes.
Andy Butler had earlier risen unchallenged to head the division's second-bottom club into the lead in the fourth minute but Michael Gray (57) levelled for the hosts with a fine 20-yard strike.
