Wolves 2-1 Scunthorpe

Neill Collins' late goal kept Wolves' Championship play-off push on course as they came from behind to beat Scunthorpe 2-1 at Molineux.

The Iron took the lead after only four minutes on Tuesday night when Grant McCann delivered a pinpoint corner from the right and Andy Butler rose highest to power a header into the left corner.

Michael Gray's spectacular strike (57) pulled Wanderers level early in the second half and defender Collins headed home substitute Matt Jarvis' cross to complete the comeback on 83 minutes.

The result moves Wanderers within a point of sixth-placed Plymouth Argyle and still with a game in hand over many of their promotion rivals, while Nigel Adkins' side stay deep in relegation trouble in 23rd.

With only one win from their last seven league games at home before Tuesday night, Wanderers' confidence was always going to be fragile and Butler's early goal did them no favours with the home support.

It was Scunthorpe that looked the team still in with a chance of reaching the play-offs, and it could easily have been 2-0 but for a fortuitous clearance from George Elokobi at the back post with Martin Paterson looking odds-on to convert Ian Morris' low cross.

Defender Darren Ward headed a Darren Potter free-kick just over the crossbar and the Iron could count themselves fortunate soon after when former Scunthorpe striker Andy Keogh showed brilliant skill to leave his marker for dead but fellow forward Sylvan Ebanks-Blake failed to read the pass and the ball rolled straight to Joe Murphy.

Ebanks-Blake's next chance came when Elokobi bombed down the left and whipped in a teasing cross but the former Plymouth striker failed to connect with the goal gaping.

Wanderers were dealt a further blow on the half-hour mark when Potter limped off to be replaced by Jarvis - but the former Gillingham winger went on to make a telling difference.

One dire attempt from Ebanks-Blake sailed past the corner flag for a throw after he had shot selfishly with Keogh and Michael Gray better placed and his frustration continued as former Sunderland defender Gray unintentionally blocked a goalbound shot

He may have scored four times in the last four games but this did not appear to be Ebanks-Blake's night as his predatory instincts again deserted him, firing straight at Murphy when clean through as half-time approached.

With their fans' patience wearing thin it was imperative McCarthy's men got an early goal - and they did just that in the 57th minute.

Jarvis' free-kick was cleared to the edge of the area and there waiting was Gray, whose fiercely struck half-volley flew past Murphy into the roof of the net, albeit with the aid of a deflection.

Jarvis was enjoying himself down the left but twice in the space of a minute better passes could have handed Keogh decent opportunities.

The Molineux fans' calls for Freddy Eastwood were finally granted with 25 minutes remaining but his only opportunity of note was blocked for a corner as Scunthorpe defended for their lives.

It seemed like Wanderers' worrying home form was going to continue when Ebanks-Blake hammered against the crossbar and Seyi Olofinjana had a header cleared off the line, but Collins popped up with seven minutes remaining to steal three precious points.

Colchester 1-3 Hull City

Hull striker Fraizer Campbell celebrated his first England Under-21 call-up with a fine brace as the Tigers won 3-1 away to 10-man Colchester.

Us defender Phil Ifil was sent off after just 14 minutes of Tuesday's Championship clash at Layer Road.

Soon after, Campbell took advantage of a fumble by goalkeeper Dean Gerken to smash in the opener before latching on to Henrik Pedersen's cross to grab a second (33).

Kevin Lisbie drove in a fine strike for the league's bottom side four minutes later to give them hope of a comeback but substitute Caleb Folan struck late on as Phil Brown's fifth-placed side held on for a win which lifted them level with West Brom on points.

Campbell has now plundered seven goals in his last nine appearances and his performance capped a fine day that began with a place in Stuart Pearce's squad to face Poland next week.

Campbell - on loan from Manchester United - was on the end of some early rough treatment from the Us defenders and was involved in the sending-off of Ifil.

Adam Virgo had already been booked for a hefty challenge on Campbell before Ifil was shown a straight red card by referee Pat Miller two minutes later for a trip on the pacy striker.

Campbell scored in the 20th minute at the second attempt after Gerken failed to hold his low shot from the edge of the area.

Hull were dominant and doubled their lead in the 33rd minute with another clinical strike.

Pedersen's cross from the left was brought down by Campbell and he effortlessly sent another left-footed drive across Gerken and into the far corner.

The hosts appeared to have a mountain to climb but Lisbie gave them hope with an excellent finish in the 37th minute.

Johnnie Jackson broke down the left before teeing up Lisbie on the edge of the area and the former Charlton man buried a sweet strike past Boaz Myhill.

The second half struggled to match the excitement of the opening 45 minutes with Ian Ashbee testing Gerken with a low drive from the edge of the box in the first moment of danger.

Left-back Andy Dawson then thought he had sealed the win with a dipping free-kick but again Gerken was equal to the effort and managed to turn it around the post.

Folan came on for veteran Dean Windass with 20 minutes remaining and sealed the win in the 87th minute.

Dean Marney picked out an intricate pass from the centre circle to send the former Wigan man clear and he kept his cool to round Gerken and roll home into an empty net.
