Paul Gallacher was the hero for Dunfermline as they progressed into the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup at the expense of Aberdeen.
After a goalless 90 minutes and an equally fruitless period of extra-time the match had to be settled by penalties where Gallacher saved from Scott Severin and Richard Foster to give his side a 4-2 victory.
The Pars acquitted themselves well in the opening 90 minutes with Steven Bell going close twice with his head in the first half.
The Dons dominated extra-time but could find no way past a dogged Dunfermline defence.
The result means Jim McIntyre's side will face Falkirk in next month's semi-final.
Gallacher told Sky Sports 1: It's absolutely fantastic, the supporters have waited a long time for something like this, we've not been performing too well this season."
Graham Bayne scored the winning kick and said afterwards: "Once Paul saved for the second time I knew if I managed to hit the back of the net we were through and it was a fantastic feeling to see the ball go in."
McIntyre added: "I was very, very nervous, a bag of nerves on the sidelines.
"But I've got the praise my team they were absolutely superb, they were out on their feet in extra-time but kept going."
Dons counterpart Jimmy Calderwood said: "We've got to look at ourselves because again we've let the club and the supporters down.
"Again we didn't play well in a very important game. That is two massive games we've let the club down in."

Dont think Rangers fans OR Celtic fans can afford to assume anything. They are both abysmal and St Mirren have beaten them both already.
pish game but ha ha to the sheep shaggers looks like rangers v falkirk should make a good final
Time the space hopper realised the jig is up - he has been found out on national tv
no desire no guile and no tatical awareness
Calderwood go now and take your flithy back room hun mates with you .
You are not wanted here or anywhere
have to say a great result for Scottish football, time to get rid of the dead wood that's been floating around Scottish football, Jim MacIntyre is young and full of ambition, and better still, he's a Dumbartonian, some of these old timers have been around too long, how old is walter stiff?
JC must go NOW! Please take that useless striking coach Sandy Clark with you as well. Absolutely no idea what they are doing. Go for the sake of Aberdeen Football Club. You have taken them as far as you can go.
