Tykes boss hails Championship

Mon 19 May, 04:30 PM

Barnsley manager Simon Davey insists the Championship is the most "exciting spectacle" in world football, not the Premier League.Stoke secured automatic promotion on the final day and two play-off places were also decided over the final weekend, while five clubs could all have been relegated had results not worked out in their last match.

Davey told Barnsley Football Monthly: "The Championship has been tough this year. I think the teams are a lot closer in ability than in the Premier League where there seems to be three separate leagues within that division.

"On their day any team in the Championship has been capable of winning against anyone else, which makes for a far more exciting spectacle.

"Every year we can predict who will be in the top four in the Premier League, but I'm sure no-one would have been able to come up with the top four in our league."
