Bundesliga - Lehmann joins Stuttgart

Eurosport - Wed, 04 Jun 08:52:00 2008

Jens Lehmann has finally left Arsenal and signed a one-year deal with German side Stuttgart.

FOOTBALL: Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann - 0

The 38-year-old finalised the move before flying to Mallorca with the Germany squad to begin their Euro 2008 preparations.

Lehmann made 147 appearances for the Gunners after joining in 2003 from Borussia Dortmund.

After replacing David Seaman, he won the title in his first season when he played every game of Arsenal's unbeaten league campaign. He also won the FA Cup the following season.

Stuttgart require a new goalkeeper after Raphael Schafer, who was signed from Nurnberg last summer, failed to live up to expectations.

Stuttgart, who finished sixth in the Bundesliga, have offered an option for a second year.

  5. Good ridence, you are a typical German, ignorant, full of self importance, arrogant, to say the least, and if you could get the boot into the opposition with
out[REF] seeing you would not hesitate.

  8. mr barrycramphorn? Teams go through seasons - there is a time for each one of them. So its obvious Arsenal's time will come and go again. Lensmann contributed what he could-and we wish him well. His ball distribution was exceptional-he could quickly pick a guy in space and throw the ball to him with such efficiency - i haven't seen that in as many goalkeepers.

  9. Jens Lehmann's character and goalkeeping prowness will be missed. He was a passionate player for the gunners throughout with loyalty always within, something that all Arsenal players should have. He has now written a little history in the Arsenal books and wil be looked upon as yet another hero of past.
I think he left a legacy with Arsenal, despite the fact that he made some errors at the beginig of the season, but he still a great man for gunners. I wish him the best.

All those who thik that foreign players are the ruin of Arsenal think again! Where would the club be wothout them, in the second division no doubt.

  20. Crazy or not, Lehmann remains one of the greatest goalies ever. He kept goal during the most glorious year of Arsenal. Only blight being the protracted and unresolved? quarrel with Almunia. All the best, Jens. Mike Kehinde.
