Championship - No FAW action for Cardiff coin toss

Eurosport - Tue, 19 May 08:48:00 2009

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale has welcomed the FA of Wales' decision not to take any disciplinary action against the club in relation to the coin-throwing incident which marred last month's derby clash against Swansea.

FOOTBALL: Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale - 0

Referee Mike Dean was struck by a coin thrown from the crowd during the first half of the encounter on April 5 and had to receive medical attention to a cut on his forehead.

A man was swiftly ejected from Ninian Park and banned by Cardiff for life, and it is due to the club`s swift response and their co-operation with South Wales Police that they have not been the subject of any further action by the FAW.

The Association may make an official announcement on Tuesday, with Cardiff also set to send out a statement.

But Ridsdale told the South Wales Echo: "We have had full and written confirmation from the FAW there will be no further action. The FAW have said we took all possible steps we could reasonably take to ensure that type of incident did not occur.

"They also took into account our swift action to ban the offender when he was identified. You can not possibly legislate for every little incident, but we are and will remain vigilant to ensure we do everything possible to do so."

  1. This could well be a thing of the past soon as both Cardiff and Swansea have applied to join the English FA. The matches between these 2 teams always cause havoc either on or off the field and as an ardent Swansea fan I always try to make sure I am away when they are played.

  2. To Glen C - Cardiff City, Swansea City and Wrexham are all clubs registered with the FA of Wales. The FAW allow those clubs to compete in the pyramid system of the English FA. Whether that's fair, appropriate, just, equitable or even desirable is another issue but it's a historical situation that the FAW has chosen not to change.

As regards the coin throwing incident, Cardiff City have done everything they can in the circumstances and as another person has pointed out this is by no means uncommon around the league.

  3. andrew , no one is saying a player should stick to the lower leagues if he can improve himself and i am happy to concede cardiff have been far the better team over the last couple of seasons and it is a step up , and marshall may do well for you if he leaves his non stick teflon gloves in norfolk , but i think your present keeper is far better than marshall and yes he was everpresent in the norwich team last season but once lewis was sold to peterborough there was no real back up keeper..

  4. What happen to the bottle thrown at a recent Birmingham game at the linesman. What happen to when a bottle thrown on the pitch at a Stoke game. What happen when the Millwall goalie was hit by a coin in the play offs??? answer nothing. Will all the anti Cardiff critics please understand this happens at lots of grounds over a season. Clubs will deal with the culprits, its got nothing to do with it being a welsh or english FA decision.....ps whats up with norwich so called fans.....gone a bit bitter. Why should any player stay in a lower league when there a chance to play in a higher league...who wouldn't? I think(not sure) but didnt Marshell play in all of your league games last season? if hes that bad what does that say about your club and its manager?

  5. Difficult answer to understand this but try your best to grasp it: It's to do with the Welsh FA because both Swansea and Cardiff are in Wales. If they were playing Norwich and it happened there then the FA and FAW would look into it. It is the right decision because Cardiff took the right action to ban the Rhondda valleys t-i-t who thought throwing coins was the done thing.

  6. Actually,if you took the time to find out what really went on and how the club is at the forefront in the battle against these idiots you would realise that the decision was a fair one.

  7. I think this is all wrong. Why when cardiff and swansea both play in the english league are these thing's not sorted by the english fa ??Well it show's that the welsh FA are standing by their team's so there for are standing by these mindless moron's so when it happen's again ( and it will ) then they have no one to blame but them self's.

  8. it is wrong,CARDIFF CITY should be done because if any of the rivals did it to them, they would have wanted them done,

I HOPE CARDIFF CITY GO DOWN TO LEAGUE ONE AFTER LEDLEY GOES

  11. As both these clubs play in an English league, what the hell's it got to do with the Welsh F A?
