Manchester City star Stephen Ireland has insisted he is a long way from agreeing a new contract with the Eastlands club.
Recent reports suggested that the midfielder was set to be offered a big-money four-year deal after excelling in a season which saw him shortlisted for the PFA's Young Player of the Year award.
The 22-year-old believes his performances this term speak for themselves and has called on the City hierarchy to resolve his future.
"We're nowhere with the contract, to be honest, we're still a long way off. Talks have barely started," he told the Daily Mirror.
"I don't know what's going to happen and if I'm going to sign or not sign. It's out of my hands right now: it's up to the club, not me.
"It's getting to the stage now where I don't know if I'm going to be signing or not. I think I've done enough this year, let my football do the talking.
"The club haven't really made an offer yet. If they make one great - if not, I've got two years left."

Comment 3 - Paul, Respect - finally heard a sensible unbiased comment from a United Supporter that apreciates good football from whatever Club!
- to all u other plastic United Fans, glad to see you make the effort to see how City are getting on - Now sod off back to Ronaldo's Page ! Hear he's trying out a new shampoo ! Hope he spends more time on his feet Next Season than on his arse like this Season - when he's playing for Real Madrid !
Ha! Ha! There's a good bunch of Lads !!!!! Ha! Ha!
Comment 12 - Strail, think u r being cynical mate, not the same situation at all as Tevez - Ireland's got 2 years still to go and it seems to me that it more United that are dragging their feet - he's a snip at 25M.
Sparky - No mucking about! - get his paperwork sorted and on the Books for the next 4 years - lose some of the other Prettyboys ! He's a must have!!!!
Messie - well, will leave that one to u !!! Ha! Ha!
team???running around like headless chickens. where is that fantastic slick passing CITY from the old first division. get a decent manager not that wimpering failure-how would any player perform for him???? good looking but no personality .dead from head to toe
He should consult his grandmother and put the jig back on, freak

who cares
you can hate chelsea if you want jon but you cant argue with talent and the leagues most consistant performer for 5 seasons.
typical hatred for no reson on your part. sad
Scott S..."lampard voted 2nd best player in the world before"...my apologies to dare comparing with such talent...i'm shocked he ever got a nomination.
Interesting that he says hes done enough "this year". I wonder if he would have done enough and put as much effort in if his contract wasnt due up at the end of this season. Yes, he's a great player and if you could guarantee the same effort for the next four years of his new contract it would be worth it. However, keep in mind, SI was probably going to be shifted out if he didnt perform this season. I like him as a player, but I dont like players who seem to think if they try hard at the end of their contract they should get a big money deal. Another example is Tevez. Another who excels when his contract is due for renewal, before that he couldnt be bothered.....maybe im just cynical.
If he was called Irelandinho and perhaps had a stylish mullet, then the current City chiefs would probably be tripping over their own legs to come up with a new deal. Shame this, as he's been City's pretty much only consistent performer this season.
jon p. he's not in lampards league! dont go around saying he has more potential as lampard was voted 2nd best player in the world before. he is similar though and could maybe turn out to a great replacememt to lamps as chelsea are going to need to find 1. let him run out his final 2 years and see how much he improves, if he does then I'll take him as lamps replacement.
I find it amazing though that he was claiming to be surprised at being nominated for young player of the year and then going on to basically try say he's been so good he deserves this and that.
3. As a city fan i can't agree more, thankyou for stating that about our Stevie. He has more potential than Lampard will probably have a better season than him coming up....
Snap him up !!
He deserves it, but he deserves a far more purposeful club than the one "Sparky" currently manages...
