Portsmouth manager Paul Hart was delighted after his side ended their home campaign with a 3-1 win over Sunderland.
Kenwyne Jones put the visitors ahead but Pompey - whose safety was secured by other results on Saturday - hit back to win thanks to John Utaka, a Phil Bardsley own goal and Armand Traore.
And Hart said: "It`s very pleasing, especially for the supporters. Our duty to them is huge and that`s part of it completed.
"We`ve got another game left and we want to do the same again. We really do want to finish as high as we can.
"It`s been a hard season and there are a lot of tired legs but they pushed themselves over the line and I`m really pleased with the performance."

Johnson, Hreiderson, Distin, Cambell, Davis, Kanu, Crouch of the starting line up, all unlikely to be at Fratton Park next season. This team were pretty dreadful on the day, so what will they be like next season when the second string steps up to the plate.
Finances at Fratton Park are not good this summer and I'm desperately hoping some new blood will be brought in to start re-building the team, rather than allowing more of the top quality stars to leave.
If we don't sell up this summer, next season can't be any worse than this one has been.
decent manager next season and we will be o k.
What's going to happen next season - I'm a Pompey exile living in Cornwall, aged 67, after supporting Pompey since I was 7yrs old and I won't slag Southampton off. But anyway - well done Pompey and Mr Hart cos I'm thrilled to bits - just wary about next season.

Pompey were simply shocking in the first half. Gave the ball away to often especially the defenders. The second half was a much improved performance but we had our share of luck. Anyway well done Pompey.
