Parkes: Blackpool offer was unacceptable

Former Blackpool caretaker boss Tony Parkes has revealed he quit the club because he was not offered a good enough deal.

Parkes, who took over the reigns at Bloomfield Road on a temporary basis in December, was set to be named as the permanent boss after showing considerable interest throughout his tenure, but decided against taking the job on Monday.

Blackpool said the 60-year-old cited personal reasons as his motive for turning the job down, but Parkes has now claimed that the offer he received was derisory and felt he deserved a better deal.

"I feel sad they offered me what they did after what I'd done. That is a regret," he told the Blackpool Gazette.

"The offer that came was unjust and there was no way that I could accept it. I don't want to cause a scene or a major problem, because I don't want to go down that road of people saying I'm bitter and twisted.

"It's just a shame the offer wasn't right. That was the main reason that I didn't take the job."

  1. Tony...you were never a no'1 anyway..I travelled to Torquay on your first match and saw for myself you had not what it took to be a no'1...and my view had not changed when I travelled to Swansea for our last game...goood luck but you are not no'1 material.
