Supple set to commit to Ipswich

Ipswich goalkeeper Shane Supple is close to signing a new contract to stay at Portman Road and push Richard Wright for the number one jersey.

Supple has made just one cup appearance for the club since May 2007 but has been handed the chance to stay by new manager Roy Keane.

He told the club's official website: "I spoke to the manager and he has offered me a new contract and it's just a case of discussing a couple of things with the club.

"I want to stay and I'm sure it will all be sorted out very soon but I'm not signing just to sit around as back-up goalkeeper.

"The manager has said that everyone will get a chance to show what they can do and it's an opportunity for me to impress him and press for a place in the team for the start of the season.

"Richard Wright was playing very well and ended up as captain at the end of last season but I want to put as much pressure as possible on him for his place."
