Tykes owner: Davey flak unfair

Tue 19 May, 01:16 PM

Barnsley owner Patrick Cryne has defended Simon Davey and urged Tykes fans to give the under-fire manager more time to turn the club's fortunes round.

A section of supporters called for Davey to be sacked during another nail-biting run-in that saw Barnsley narrowly avoid relegation for the third successive season, but Cryne insists the Welshman has done a decent job under the circumstances.

Cryne said: "I understand the constraints which Simon has to work under. I believe he's a very good young manager who is working within our limitations.

"Unfortunately we are one of the smaller clubs in the division in terms of gates and we're not as fashionable as some of the big city clubs. It's always going to be a challenge to be successful in the Championship.

"I think when he picked up the mantle from Andy Ritchie, he caught some of the backlash from our bad form. I think he caught it unfairly. But since he's come in, we've become more professional as a club in many different areas. I understand his difficulties, but I have a lot of respect for his talent.

"Fans tend to judge the here and now and you can sympathise with them when results are not going our way. But I'm a fan and I'm able to be a little more tolerant than most fans because I can see what Simon is trying to do with the club. Simon has done well to keep us up, but the fans expect more."

  3. agree with no.7 however the likelyhood of us landing a decent striker is fairly low because we are classed as relegation contenders every season and we wont pay high wages to compensate. hope someone proves us wrong but dont think mr.hume is going to be 20 plus this season he cant do it all on his own. and as for istvan yer he is and what about the macedonian wonder georgie hristov a soon as he left he was bangin em in, in the dutch lead i heard few seasons ago i know but. dont know which i prefer most though a premiership has been or a young low league forward who can score? then that brings another question of will they be able to do it in this league i dont know, everything always has been a question around this club like can he do it is he any good? etc etc just for a changed it would be nice to hear someone say they can and will you agree?

  4. Barnsley only seem to have done well with more attacking midfielders eg Glavin, Redfearn, Hignett and Howard.
As far as strikers go how come we can turn leading goalscorers into a striker what fires blanks.
Apparently Istvan is knocking them in for fun at his new club.
Jamie Cureton couldn't score for Barnsley on loan then went back to Norwich and knocked 2 in against us!!!!

  5. Took Wenger 4 years to settle, Took Sir Alex 3, Took Moyes 3 at Everton..Patience.

Yes we have improved, In my eyes anyway..Can you honestly tell me Andy Ritchies squad would have kept us up 2 seasons ago?..C'mon. Don't kid yourself!

The defence is there..Although i would like to see a long term replacement for moore alongside foster, Midfield is pretty much done, Just need a damn good forward, IE Rowan Vine

    Have faith in davey

  6. I totally agree with you Toby. I'm just as fed up as the rest but will another manager change anything. We haven't got the fan base until they crawl out of the woodwork when we get promoted to the Premiership.
How many manager's do we have to keep going through?
Another manager - another complete change of playing staff.
Yeah the football isn't brilliant at times but i remember when Paul hart was the manager and that was just dire.
I suppose there has to be a limit so i reckon they'll have to give him a couple of months at the start of the season.
Anyway we're all Barnsley fans has anyone got ideas on who they would like to replace Davey if he does get the shove.

  7. Patrick are you alright in the head or is it full of s.hit like Davey's tactics and managment skills? You are a complete joke and to keep this muppet and half the squad will take us down for sure next season. BTW when did Davey ask us why we should keep him like you said he would have to after telling you why?

  8. good point not thought of that really, but however year on year we here this is a better team but the total points between this season and last season is less.. can i ask a question though in the previous 2 years has there been a noticble improvement on the field? because the points tend to argue there asnt been.

  9. luck has kept us up
    Davey has kept us down
in the bottom half of table
we don't want any more relegation scraps
so the only way forward is get rid of management
and start afresh Even most of the stuanch tykes fans
    will agree

  10. I would just like to remind some Barnsley fans which teams we got promoted with.

    Div 1 Champions Southend Utd
    Div 1 Runners up Colchester

and ask yourselves where are they now!!!!
