Robins boss wants to keep players

Thu 19 Jun, 04:00 PM

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson is confident of keeping his best players at Ashton Gate despite interest from Premier League clubs.Midfielder Marvin Elliot is the latest player to attract attention with Middlesbrough and relegated Derby both expressing an interest.

Adriano Basso, Liam Fontaine and Lee Johnson were all linked with moves to the Premier League last season and Portsmouth were said to be keen on Elliot.

But Johnson told the Bristol Evening Post: "I'm trying to build something here and I want to keep my best players, not sell them. The last thing I want is to be losing players to rival clubs.

"Of course, every player has his price and you have to consider what is best for the club. But the players enjoyed last season and I can't think of any football reasons why they might want to leave."
