Torres poised to return in July

Thu 19 Jun, 05:00 PM

Wycombe midfielder Sergio Torres is set to resume training in mid-July after undergoing a successful operation on an ankle injury. The 26-year-old Argentinean underwent the routine procedure earlier this month, but after meeting with club physio's on Monday he hopes to be fit to line up against Morecambe at Adams Park on the opening day and the Carling Cup first-round tie with Birmingham.

Torres told Wycombe's official website: "It's going well. I've just seen the physio and he says he's happy, so hopefully after I've seen the doctor in the middle of July I'll be able to start training again.

"My ankle's a bit swollen and sore still, which is normal, but there's still a few weeks until the season so I need to make sure my ankle is fine and hopefully get into the team."

Torres added: "As soon as the fixtures came out I looked to see who we were playing on the first day and it's very important that it's at home.

"Every player looks forward to playing in big games and Birmingham are a really good team who were unlucky to go down last year. I'm not sure if I'll be fit to play in it but I hope to get on the pitch for some of it."
