Championship - Leicester firm over Cox price

Eurosport - Fri, 19 Jun 13:02:00 2009

Leicester chief executive Lee Hoos has warned Swindon that the Foxes will not pay over the odds for in-demand striker Simon Cox.

FOOTBALL Simon Cox Swindon Town - 0

The League One champions are one of a host of clubs keen to sign Cox (pictured), who scored 32 goals last season.

Swindon chairman Andrew Fitton has valued his star asset at around £2.5 million, but Hoos believes that sum is unrealistic for a player who has yet to prove himself in the higher reaches of the Football League.

"That is pretty steep for a League One player," Hoos told the Swindon Advertiser.

"We know where we need to shore up but we are trying to get things done within reason.

"It is not a case of having an unlimited amount of money, market conditions are tight and we are trying to do the best we can with it."

  1. We need proven quality. There are plenty of players who have found their level in League One - Matty Fryatt may be one of them (Matty couldnt hit a cows **** with a banjo in our last Championship season) - my guess is this Cox lad is the same

Simon Cox top scorer in a team that was abysmal during the season without his goals we would of been relegated.

  4. We obviously need a striker who can score at championship level when we went down goals were the problem not the defence although beckford looks a good target.

  6. I thought we were looking to support the manager get the money pay for the guy and lets move on I'm paying my way with a season ticket who supported the team at every match I commit why dont the board....thought we were told we had the money.

This is a good player...we can't go on with the normal long ball to Howard know matter how well the guy did......what is £2m we will have a full ground every match I guess we want to back our money...??????

  7. ya can have beckford for 2.4999 million if ya like? he's better than this lad. All of beckford's 36 goals last season were from open play, not like all the other guys in the league one top scorers table, they had about 10 pens a piece to boost their totals.
