Eurosport - Fri, 19 Jun 12:07:00 2009

Former Queens Park Rangers boss Paulo Sousa has "verbally accepted" an offer to manage Swansea, according to the Welsh club.

The 38-year-old ex-Portugal midfielder - who won the Champions League twice as a player with Juventus and Dortmund - was offered a three-year contract that chairman Huw Jenkins said he was expected to sign by the start of next week.

"He is young, bright, enthusiastic and a visionary with extensive knowledge and contacts not only throughout Europe but world football,"Jenkins said on the club website.

"We have created something different within the British game and become renowned as a quality football team with supporters who really appreciate the way we try and play the game.

"We are committed to keeping this theme under the leadership and guidance of Paulo Sousa who, I am pleased to say, has verbally accepted the job."

Sousa, who QPR sacked on April 9 after only 26 games in charge, previously worked with the Portuguese national team and will replace Roberto Martinez, who joined Wigan earlier in the week.
