FIA: We will not be held to ransom

Eurosport - Fri, 19 Jun 11:40:00 2009

Formula One's governing body insists it will not be held to ransom by the eight teams threatening to form a breakaway series in a row over the submission of unconditional entries for next season's championship.

The FIA added that it would publish a revised list of entrants to its championship on Saturday.

"The FIA is disappointed but not surprised by FOTA's inability to reach a compromise in the best interests of the sport," it said, referring to the Ferrari-led Formula One Teams Association's plan to set up their own series.

"It is clear that elements within FOTA have sought this outcome throughout the prolonged period of negotiation and have not engaged in the discussions in good faith," added a statement.

"The FIA cannot permit a financial arms race in the Championship nor can (it) allow FOTA to dictate the rules of Formula One.

It said the deadline for unconditional entries to its championship would expire as planned later on Friday.

FOTA issued a statement at the British Grand Prix saying that BMW-Sauber, Brawn, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Renault, Toro Rosso and Toyota would start to prepare for their own championship from 2010.

Former champions Williams and Force India have committed to the FIA championship along with the new Campos, Manor and US F1 teams.

The FIA had set a Friday deadline for the remaining teams to make their entries unconditional or risk exclusion in favour of would-be new competitors.

The eight FOTA teams had submitted entries conditional on the 2010 rules, which include a controversial budget cap, being rewritten and the signing of a new commercial agreement.

  2. A negotiated settlement is needed ..... A statement from the FiA read

"Do as we say or else!"

FOTA stick to your guns, Max and the dwarf stop whinging and let the teams race the championship as the fans and FOTA want it not as you two naughty little boys try and dictate.

So where is the first FOTA F1 race ? So we can support Ferrari, Mclaren, Brawn and the rest of F1 proper.

  4. Sir Spanksalot and the little munchkin drove this elite sport into the ground a long time ago! They were allowed too much power and it went to their heads. How the hell did Mad Max survive his spanking escapades? Who else is he in bed with?

I want the Manufacturers to create their own series and piss all over FIA/F1. I loath the way the current sport is managed. After 21 years of watching, this year I can't be bothered to tune in. It is all favours and favourites. Different rules and applications for different teams and drivers. It is manipulation at it's worst!

So to the Manufacturers paying attention; " PLEASE SAVE THIS FINE SPORT OF LEGENDS, WE WILL WILL FOLLOW YOU WHERE EVER YOU GO, SO LONG AS YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU NEED THE FANS AND CONTROL GATE PRICES, THAT AN INDEPENDANT SET OF STEWARDS GO TO EVERY RACE AND APPLY THE SAME SET OF STANDARDS AND ENSURE NO ONE PERSON CAN DICTATE THE SPORT LIKE WE HAVE EXPERIENCED"!

For goodness sake there are millions of people starving out there in the real world and these pampered fanatics are squabbling over how much money they can spend on racing a bloody car around a sodding track.

  11. Of course you won't be held to ransom! Are you really too stupid to realise that without the top teams you might as well give up & go back to your fetishes? The teams hold all the cards. With the few you have left, you might as well hold pedal car races round my back garden!

  12. FOTA shoul act now!!! Start preparing the next year championship right now!!
99 percent of fans will stick with FOTA in whatever they decide to do.No matter what name they have to use ("TOP FORMULA" will be nice).
Let Bernie and Max start their own "LOW COST GOLF-CART FIA CHAMPIONSHIP" where they can include MR.BEAN as one of the top drivers!!!
As long as FOTA keep their drivers, their cars, and technology, they will always be the real formula one...or "top formula" as I said before.

  18. Even though I Can't tell whether this breakaway series will be successful, it's high time the FIA and ecclestone be shown the door for their dictatorship and exploitation which saw the sport lose out on many things like money, sponsors, fans. Atleast now they will be the ones begging crying for mercy.

larsonrc41 wake up and smell the coffee the fota teams are not underwriten by the big car companies they are underwriten by us the tax payers when they all came cap in hand for money.
The big car manufactures say poor us then blow it on unlimited spending in F1.
Still looks like Ferrari, red bull and Torros rosso will have other things to blow it on like the massive damadges claims they will have to pay for breach of contract perhaps if we are realy lucky it will mean the bankrupcty of Ferrari now that would be realy nice
