Premier League - Arbeloa mulls over return to Spain

Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa has admitted he would consider a return to Spain as speculation mounts that Glen Johnson is on is way to Anfield.

The 26-year-old Spain international has been linked with a return to former club Real Madrid, with Portsmouth right-back Johnson tipped for a £17 million switch to Merseyside.

Arbeloa, currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup, told El Mundo: "I am happy at Liverpool, but I have something to prove in Spain as I did not show my best form in La Liga. One day, I'm sure I will return.

"It is always nice to be linked to big teams - even to this Madrid side in a time of transition. They are working hard to build a great team.

"I have one more year remaining on my Liverpool deal, but anything can happen.

"A contract renewal is in the air. I am contracted for one more year, but if Liverpool get an offer, they will consider it. It is all in the hands of my agent."

  1. personally i think arbeloa is a quality defender id­ play him at left back never mind as back up but i do­ hope that we sign johnson he is a top atacking defender­ with pace to burn something we lack a bit at the back

  3. He doesn't want to stay. he wanted to go last year­ and was thinking about it the year before simple as­ that. If we can get some money for him before he gets a­ free transfer then so be it. The fact he hasn't­ renewed yet speaks volumes. He has played well this­ season, probably because he knew he was going. Good­ luck to the lad.

  7. I think Arbeloa is overrated. Not good enough for a top­ 4 side. Would be OK as a backup player if Johnson­ comes, but if Madrid (or any other club) put in a good­ offer for him they should take it.

  10. Fact is Moores has been associated with Liverpool for­ as long as I can remember, considering you've not­ won the league for twenty years I'm surprized­ he's lasted this long. At a global business level­ the club has not progressed that much under Moores­ leadership. The sad thing is he's left it in the­ hands of a couple of Yank chancers who look like there­ up to their (red) necks in debt.

  15. probably the most under rated player at liverpool. Bet­ if you look he has played more minutes than any1 else,­ in all the defensive positions, and he is a spain­ international, you don't get there by being @#$% do­ ya. He would be a good backup to whoever we get, and he­ is consistent and good, thats why madrid want him
