i should have been a tennis player and only concentrate on first rounds as it can help me cover my expenses and survive. As most british players do. thanks
My only view regarding the winners money is that, if both the women and men are paid the same for winning each gran slam. The women's game should be extended to the best of five set as it is with the men's game. As far as I am concern, the womens game can be just as exciting as the men's game. We now live in a society where we talk about equal treatment, therefore it should be equal for the women to work just as hard as the men. I am just a fan of the sport and I equally enjoy watching both women and men play.

WOW HATERS COMPLAINING JUST BECAUSE THE WILLIAMS SISTERS TOOK HOME A TOTAL OF 1,505,000.00 POUNDS (ONE MILLION FIVE HUNDRED AND FIVE BRITSH POUNDS) CRY BABIES NOBODY COMPLAINED WHEN KUTNESOVA WENT HOM WITH THE SAME PRIZE WITH FEDERER IN ROLAND GAROS BUT THE WILLIAMS WON SINGLE TITLE AND RUNNER UP AS WELL AS DOUBLES TITLE AND HATERS START TO SCREAM.HAHAHAHAHAHA, HATE IT BUT YOU CAN NEVER CHANGE IT, IF YOU LIKE WATCH THE LADIES TOURNAMENT OR DON'T WATCH IT THEY WILL ALL GO HOME WITH THE SAME PRIZE, I THINK THE ONLY SOLUTION IS FOR ALL OF YOU HATERS TO ASPIRE TO BE THE TENNIS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT SO YOU CAN CHANGE THE SHARING RULES HAHAHAHAHAHAH NOT GOING TO HAPPEN OR IF IT WILL HAPPEN THE WILLIAMS WOULD HAVE RETIRED BY THEN HAHAHAHAHAHAHA SO PAINFUL HAHAHAHAHA MORE MILLIONS GOING INTO THE WILLIAMS ACCOUNTS HAHAHAHAHAHA
I agree with P T and antonio with the fact that women play far less and yet get the same amount of money won.
In today's THE TIMES Sport section there was only news about the menstennis and there wasn't even a tiny article about todays matches.
Also the competition in the mens is a whole lot bigger than the womens: Hewitt has won Wimbeldon twice and this year he didn't get a seed, he also played a tough 5 set match against his opponent in the hot day against a seed.
In the women's competition however there are the Williams sisters and maybe a couple of other players who stand out. As for the unseeded players...they are massacred in the first round.
FYI Harold W nobody cares or watches the womens matches and they have no idea what it means to play 2 more sets on a 30 degree day until 9pm. If they were all entered in 1 singles competition they would proberly run to their mums crying about it being too hard and too fast.
P.S. they would proberly all be knocked out by non-seeders in the first round.
Just one more thing: women probablly couldn't play more than 3 sets. They would start crying due to exhaustion!
Harold W - please make sure you know what you are on about. How can it possibly be fair for women to get the same as men? Men play 2/5 more and the interest in the mens games doesn't even compare to the women's game. I mean, who even cares who wins the ladies? I have watched every Federer & Murrey game, most of Hewett's games and some others. I have not watched a single ladies game. To the best of my knowledge nor has most of the other men in my tennis club.
i agree with the fact if woman want the same money they should play best of 5 and not the best of 3 from start to finish round 1 to the final
I cant believe all those brits who got wildcards entires, and then who did so badly will still pocket 10k for their 'efforts' - no wonder the press give them a hard time!!
If u lose in the 1st roundd u should really just get ur expenses covered!
I believe in fairness as well, but this is about equity as well, therefore, has nothing to do with %,but proportionality: Under P.T's Fri 26 Jun 4:23PM plan, the women would only get 510,000 and the men would get 850,000,and this would not only be grossly un fair but also a grave injustice. This money is given out in 15 parts;the women get 10/15=2/3, and the men get 9/15=3/5;one part less than the women or 1/15 of the 850,000, which is approximately 56.6,000: And if fair is to be fair, they can give the men 850,000 and the women 793.4,000. However,I believe women's tennis produce more sales to men, women and commerce than men's tennis. From H.W. 27/06/09 6:30PM

Only when women play the best of 5 sets should they earn as much as the men, besides, the women's matches are not as exciting as that of the men. I say the women should earn 60% of £850 000.00 in line with the number of games they play. In the work place, when one works overtime, one earns extra in wages. Fair is fair.
the prize money is a total racket :)
That's equality for you
the pay is not fair to men player unless the lady's play three out of five sets like the men
can someone bye me a sandwitch please
THIS IS REALLY ENCOURAGING
THIS HELPS MOTIVATES YOUNG PLAYERS TO PERFORM MUCH BETTER
