Lennie Lawrence believes Bristol Rovers are frontrunners to land a key transfer target.
The club's director of football refused to reveal the identity of the player, but said he was hopeful the Pirates would secure his services ahead of the new season.
"There is going to be a lot of interest in him," he told BBC Radio Bristol.
"He will probably speak to half a dozen clubs I would think, but we have targeted him for a long time.
"I think we are just about favourites to land him now."
