Vermaelen completes Gunners switch

Arsenal have completed the signing of Belgium defender Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax.

Vermaelen, 23, joined Ajax in 2004 and has made over 100 appearances for the Dutch club. The undisclosed fee is reported to have been in the region of £10million.

Vermaelen said on www.arsenal.com: "Arsenal is a great club with a world class manager, high quality players and a fantastic stadium."

He added: "Everything is set up for Arsenal to be very successful for years to come and I joined this club because I know Arsenal will be challenging for trophies."

  1. steve, why dont you go up the road to the shadow­ dwellers if you think the @#$% they buy is better than­ what arsenal have got?... and overmars, petite, vieira­ and henry were all signed by wenger you plum.. . . and­ as for being a 'gunners fan since i was a­ kid'... how old are you? twelve?.... people have­ got short memorys... look at some of the @#$% served up­ by don howe in the eighties and george graham in the­ mid nineties... yet you slag wenger... do us a favour­ and go up the lane as real Arsenal dont want you jonny­ @#$% latelys...

  3. iv been a gunners fan since i was a kid and i dont­ think at any time in the past have i ever been more­ pissed off with the way our team is being run . its ok­ saying we're building for the future and we got­ excellent youngsters, but that just says we are @#$% at­ the moment ! even spurs are buying or trying to buy­ decent players where as wenger is still buying kids and­ has beens . why dont we get rid of wenger and sort out­ our team NOW !!!! look at the players we had .... ­ seaman, adams, dixon, viera, petite, overmars, ­ berkamp, henry etc. etc. etc. everyone of them would­ walk into our team now and push out the likes of ­ gallas, toure, sagne, adeybeyor, bedtner, van persie­ and that f@cking walcot because they are all a shower­ of @#$% !
