Third seed Dominika Cibulkova beat Israeli Shahar Peer 6-2 7-6(5) to set up a third-round clash with Russia’s Nadia Petrova, the eighth seed moving through after beating Spain’s Anabel Medina Garrigues 7-5 6-3.
Two first-round matches were played to completion on Tuesday as seventh seed Jelena Jankovic went out 6-2 3-6 6-4 to Sweden’s Sofia Arvidsson, while Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer also suffered an upset in losing 6-1 6-2 to Russian qualifier Daria Gavrilova.
