NURBURGRING, Germnay (AFP) - Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello were confirmed by Formula One team Honda on Thursday as their drivers for next season.

The Japanese team have had a miserable 2007 campaign so far with Briton Button and Brazilian Barrichello earning just one point between them after a series of mechanical problems.

The 27-year-old Button's best result has been an eighth-place finish at the French Grand Prix.

Barrichello, 35, joined the team in 2005 after racing for six years in the shadow of seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher at Ferrari.

"Next year we'll compete with the same pair," team boss Nick Fry confirmed, adding: "We'll see for 2009."

"These two drivers did excellent work this year in difficult conditions and on several occasions they did better than we hoped."

Button started his career with Williams in 2000 before joining Benetton which became Renault in 2002, and then BAR-Honda which became Honda in 2006.

Barrichello started out with Jordan from 1993 to 1996, and then raced with Stewart from 1997-1999 followed by Ferrari 2000-2005.
