Argyle striker set for wide role

Sat 19 Jul, 02:00 PM

Jamie Mackie insists he is the man to fill the void left by Peter Halmosi after scoring twice for Plymouth against Kidderminster on Friday. The 22-year-old striker was signed from non-league outfit Exeter for £145,000 in January and scored both goals as Paul Sturrock's men drew 2-2 with the Harriers at Aggborough.

But with Mackie facing stern competition from Jermaine Easter, Steve MacLean and Rory Fallon for a starting place in Paul Sturrock's attack, the former MK Dons man admits he would have no problem about being played on the wings next season.

"I want to play as many games as I can. I'll play wherever he (Paul Sturrock) wants me to play but I want to score goals," Mackie told the club's official website.

"Up front there is obviously the chance to do that but I think there is a lot of goals to be scored out wide.

"I work hard in the off season. I want to come back and I want to stake my place in the team so the I'm there on the first game of the season."
