Premier League newcomers West Bromwich Albion suffered a 4-1 defeat to newly-promoted Bundesliga side Cologne in Germany on Saturday.Tony Mowbray's side, who played a 4-3-3 formation, were 4-0 down before half-time through goals by Nemanja Vucicevic, Milivoje Novakovic, a Roman Bednar own goal and Fabrice Ehret.

Substitute Craig Beattie pulled back a consolation in the 76th minute for the Baggies. Goalkeeper Michal Danek made his debut for Albion.
