Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate has reaffirmed that he is not looking to sign a new goalkeeper following the departure of Mark Schwarzer.Schwarzer left for Fulham at the start of the summer, but Southgate was quick to state that he would allow Brad Jones and Ross Turnbull - both products of the club's famed academy - to fight it out for the number one jersey.
Despite his comments, numerous keepers including Paul Robinson, Robert Green and Scott Carson have been linked with moves to The Riverside.
But Southgate insists that either Jones or Turnbull will start the season in goal.
"They are both relishing that challenge and it will be fascinating to see which one comes through," said Southgate.
"There has been lots of speculation - which has been difficult for them - because I've promised them the opportunity and they must keep thinking 'is he bringing someone in?'.
"I've been saying to them since the end of last season with Schwarzer gone then they'd get their opportunity.
"Quite frankly I've not been offered a goalkeeper over the summer that's better than either of them."
Southgate is yet to confirm which of Jones or Turnbull will start the season as his new number one.
