Fergie Sounds Spurs Warning

Sat 19 Jul, 06:09 PM

Sir Alex Ferguson believes it will be "very embarrassing" for Tottenham if they decide to carry out their threat to report Manchester United to the Premier League.

Chairman Daniel Levy is furious at United for what he sees as the very public courting of striker Dimitar Berbatov.

However Old Trafford boss Ferguson maintains he never mentioned anyone by name when he revealed they had tabled a bid for a player.

Ferguson claims his remarks were misreported by a national newspaper and that United may now bring in their legal team.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa, he said: "It is going to be very embarrassing for them (Tottenham).

"But you know what Daniel Levy is like. He is different."

  1. does anybody no de latest news on de keane to liverpool transfer???

From dwayne, on Mon 21 Jul 12:05AM
  2. Levy is a business man and knows about law.He would not base his facts on a newspaper article and not run it through his legal team before making these claims. He must have something on man u.As for liverpool, rafa is on tv talking about keane. If they have been told no sale, that should be the end of it.
Either way, both players are no good to us anymore.Villa,Man City,Everton and other teams take note.As soon as you start threatening the big boys for trophies and champoins league, they will take your best player(s).The only way to stop this is for spurs to have the balls to see this though and nail utd and the reds, but both hide behind the FA and Premier league,so no chance.COYS!

  3. While you don't want to keep players who don't want to play for you, if you want to compete with the top teams you can't let a player go if you can't get anyone as good to replace them. If the bid of £22M for Berbatov is correct who are we going to get for that cash as good? I can't think of any decent strikers available to fit the bill. Unless Man Utd offered close to 30M I'd tell them to take their cash elsewhere. As for Keane, I'd let him go if we can get £20M for him, I think Berbatov made him look better than he is and he wouldn't fit in with a 4/5/1 formation, which it looks like we'll be playing next season.

  4. As a Football fan, how can any club wish to keep a player that doesn't want to give 100% to a club that they have contract to or were happy to play for before they were tapped. Heart and soul or get them out - You dont see fans changing clubs every year?

Let Keano go to Spain (Liverpool) and Berba go the new US outfit (Man U) -

  5. Ok, apparently this is confusing to some: United put in two separate, OFFICIAL bids for Berbatov, not even announcing who they were after the first time. That is appropriate behavior.

Real Madrid did not make any official bid; in fact, for about two months, they made no official contact with United, whatsoever. They merely used the press to entice Ronaldo to the Bernabeu, repeatedly and incessantly. That is tampering/tapping up/lubricating/making inappropriate contact. PERIOD.

So, Fergie laughing at Levy is not hypocritical. Furthermore, Tevez wasn't entirely owned by West Ham, as we all know, so that situation isn't analogous, either. PERIOD.

Lastly, Fergie WAS willing to sell Heinze, and he did; JUST NOT TO LIVERPOOL, our main rival (sorry City and Arsenal, it's true).

So, if people aren't going to pay attention to the specific nuances of these deals, then they shouldn't be talking about them.....

Anyway, COME ON, UNITED!!! WITH BERBIE OR WITHOUT HIM, MORE TROPHIES ARE COMING OUR WAY!!!

  6. Kearn, if these statements are false I take it Fergusson will sue The Sun. Time will tell. I'm interested to know how you're 100% certain he hasn't made these statements, maybe you are 'Sir Al' under an alias? In which case, congrats on the title last season and watch out for the purple nose, it's a sign of heart problems.

  8. I wonder who ferguson think he is. Last two seasons ago he refused vehemently to sell Heinze to liverpool. Claiming they're is rivals whom he eventually sold to real maldrid. he bought Tevez from W/ham no complain. But his cry like aday old baby because another team wants it's star player, why. The clubs he's been buying their star players are they not interested in been d league & european champions?.Everyone knew who he was refering to, claiming he didn't mention name is just his usual way he is d best thing that happened to futball. I pray that spurs to don't sell him to manu, they 're rivals as well.what goes round comes around. Too full of himself. Mr Levy hold on to berbie as well or sell to another club in another league. They don't need him, just to unsettle him thats all.

  13. Different rules for that scum ! Grow up! what age are you ?? talking like that about anyone, never mind the greatest manager England has ever known, but envy does that eh? brings out the worst in the low lifes and Vermin. All the best. Jake.

  14. i get it.

  15. If he didn't say that he should sue the Sun. Because in the alleged interview he mentioned Tottenham and Berbatov by name twice. Unless there's another Berbatov who plays for another club called Tottenham? ;o)

From Pheonix, on Sat 19 Jul 6:44PM
  16. Envy? ha.. you've got tobe joking. Ferguson is hated because he has never played by the rules, and the situation is same here. And as for this being embarrassing for us, levy will have more evidence than just a comment.
Oh and if you think ferguson is right then real madrid has done nothing wrong as well.

From Naman, on Sat 19 Jul 6:42PM
  17. typical fergie one rule for him, but blow everyone else. berbie stay at spurs unless you like sitting on the bench.

  19. a "horrible piece of work"? seriously? thats a tad dramatic, no? What he says is true so hes done nothing wrong.

From Alexander, on Sat 19 Jul 6:30PM
  20. No, he is not a horrible piece of work and there is no diferent rule for him at all. It's true he did not mention any name; the media presumed on the name. The horrible ones are the Real Madrid coach and his president that unabashedly tapped Ronaldo. I don't know why Alex is hated by folks but I think it boils down to envy; that's all. Success brings tat in any sphere of life.
