Gillingham's Mark Bentley admits he is hoping most of his action in the current League Two season comes in marshalling the centre of the park.Bentley started pre-season playing as a centre-back after a few appearances at the heart of defence last season, but the Gills club captain admits he prefers his traditional midfield role.
"I played a few games there last year when there was injuries or maybe a lack of form from other players which wasn't a problem for me," he said. "But I still find midfield is my strongest position.
"I played a few games in pre-season as a centre-half, I think the manager just wanted to have a look at me again in the midfield and to be fair, I think I've conducted myself well over the last few games, so hopefully I can continue as a midfield player."
Bentley is keen to help the club have a succesul campaign, no matter where he plays, after the Gills were relegated to League Two last season.
"We want to prove to people that last year was a one-off thing," he added. "Yeah, we didn't perform well and we want to prove not only to ourselves but to the supporters that we will get the club pushing in the right direction again."
