Watford defender Leigh Bromby has hailed his fledgling defensive partnership with Jay DeMerit after the Hornets' bright start to the season.DeMerit has returned to the side after Danny Shittu's transfer to Bolton and Adrian Boothroyd's outfit have yet to concede a goal.

Bromby said: "From a defending point of view I'm very happy with three clean sheets so hopefully we can progress from this.

"The manager has had us defenders out there every day working as a unit on set-pieces and such like - we've been working very hard.

"Obviously it's a relatively new partnership between me and Jay but it's working well.

"We've lost Dan so it's up to both of us to step up and prove that we're good enough to be playing."
