Dons take look at Dutch trialist

Tue 19 Aug, 04:45 PM

Aberdeen assistant Jimmy Nicholl has confirmed the Dons have taken Dutch defender Quido Lanzaat on a week-long trial from CSKA Sofia. The former Ajax, Borussia Moenchengladbach and 1860 Munich player has been released by CSKA Sofia.

The 28-year-old can play at right-back or in the centre of defence.

Nicholl said: "We have the chap in on trial this week and he has been out training with us in two very intense sessions yesterday and today.

"I think he was maybe just a little behind the rest of the lads but not very far at all and he will continue to train for the rest of the week and we shall see how things progress."

Meanwhile, Nicholl has challenged the players to produce some better football when Rangers visit Pittodrie on Saturday.

The Dons frustrated Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday before Charlie Mulgrew stole a 1-0 victory with a late free-kick.

That earned Aberdeen their first SPL points of the season following the 2-0 defeat by Inverness on the opening day.

Nicholl told the club's official website: "We had a good lift with the win away to Motherwell and all the lads won't need much pumping up ahead of Rangers on Saturday, these types of games are always full of adrenalin.

"Obviously we won against them here at the end of last season and all the lads on both sides will remember this, but it is a new season with a lot of new faces.

"What we are really hoping for on Saturday is good quality of play, something which has not been present at the first two games.

"The win against Motherwell was a hard slog and to be honest away games can often be like that, but when we are playing at home we really should be showing the quality of football that we all know exists here at the club."
