Wales Under-21 manager Brian Flynn has concerns over the fitness of Joe Ledley for Wednesday's crunch UEFA championship qualifier. The midfielder is one of the senior internationals lent to Flynn by senior boss John Toshack for the vital clash against Romania at Wrexham.
If Wales win they will compete in November's play-offs for a place in next summer's finals in Sweden.
But Flynn's preparation will be badly hit if Ledley does not recover from a back injury.
Flynn said: "Joe is our only injury problem, he is having treatment and we will have to wait and see how he goes."
Wales have already lost West Ham midfielder Jack Collison with ligament damage, another full international that had been drafted into the 21-man squad for the most important game in Wales Under-21s' history.
But Flynn will have Manchester City's young striker Ched Evans on show, fresh from his Premier League debut in Sunday's 4-2 defeat at Aston Villa.
The 19-year-old from north Wales knew only three minutes before kick-off that he was going to be plunged into Manchester City's first game of the season, his full league debut.
The shock Achilles injury to Valeri Bojinov in the warm-up left Evans as City's only striker for the match.
Evans, with nine goals in eight under-21 games and the winner on his full debut in Iceland last season, had been waiting for his City chance - but perhaps not in such demanding circumstances.
It is fair to say that City boss Mark Hughes was probably not expecting miracles from St Asaph-born Evans, but Flynn will want a match-winning performance from the youngster tomorrow night.
Evans said: "On Sunday against Villa I was told three minutes prior to kick-off that I was playing, but I was prepared. You have to be, even in the warm-up, for any emergency, and that is what happened.
"But working with Mark Hughes I have a lot of confidence and that follows on from having a good loan spell at Norwich last season.
"I have been doing well during training and all that has been building up to playing in the Premier League for Manchester City."
He added: "Of course I enjoyed the experience, if not the result, but now I am looking forward to the game on Wednesday for the under-21s.
"You need regular first-team football as a player and I am beginning to get that, having also had a few chances in the UEFA Cup games.
"Now I am looking forward to helping Wales qualify for the under-21 finals. It helps having such a good relationship with Sam Vokes up front.
"We have a good partnership and we keep in touch off the field. The under-21 team is so strong and full of confidence and we always feel we are going to do well.
"This is a massive game and with it live on TV, everyone will be watching and these are the games that you have to impress in as a player."
