Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has declared the Whites will not make a bid for Crystal Palace's veteran striker Dougie Freedman.Freedman, 35, had a successful loan spell at Elland Road last season, but Bates believes that a permanent move from Palace would not serve United or Freedman's interests.
"Our future is in youth," Bates told the club's official website. "We have to look forward, not back.
"Dougie did a good job for us last season, no doubt about it. But he's 35, he's an East London boy, he's got four kids, and is happily married. He's obviously not going to move his family up here for what would only be a one or two-year contract.
"It would not be fair to ask him to live in a hotel for 12 months."
The former Scotland international, currently on the Eagles' transfer list, scored six goals in 14 appearances for Leeds in a two-and-a-half month loan last season.

i totaly agree with bates the future is with youth, and if the right ones come in ,it will save the club pounds
He did well for uslast year and if he can get us out of League 1 then money well spent, your not telling me Leeds don't have a spare house for the next two years, however, Bates is right that we should plan for the future and that might well be with youth, but first of all you need experienced players to bring these guy's along. I think Bates comments are more to do with Freedma stating he didn't want to join Leeds last year
East london? what a muppet Bates
bates is right go with the future
