Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has confirmed the club are poised to sign Shola Ameobi from Newcastle after a transfer fee was agreed for the player.
The 26-year-old striker has found himself behind Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith at St James' Park and spent part of last season in the Coca-Cola Championship on loan at Stoke.
With the current financial situation at the club Magpies boss Kevin Keegan is looking to raise funds and Ameobi has been allowed to move to Portman Road.
"We have agreed a fee with Newcastle for Shola and he spent yesterday at the club having a medical," Magilton told www.itfc.co.uk.
"We've had a good chat and things are moving on. He will be with us again today and hopefully we can get it all tied up."
