Italian motorcyclist Valentino Rossi will take part in December's Rally Great Britain, the five-times premium class world champion's father Graziano has told Autosport magazine.

It will be the third time that Rossi, who leads the MotoGP standings by 87 points with four races to go, has competed in a world championship rally after he participated in Rally GB in 2002 and in Rally New Zealand in 2006.

Meanwhile, tickets sales for the event in Wales are already 60 per cent ahead of comparable figures for this time last year, organisers confirmed.

Spectator ticket sales for December's Wales Rally GB are already 60 per cent ahead of comparable figures for this time last year, organisers confirmed this week.

"In particular, the 'Kids for a Quid' ticket offer for seats in the upper tier of the Millennium Stadium to watch the flat-out Cardiff Special Stage on Saturday 6 is proving to be very popular," read a statement.

The Hafren, Myherin and Sweet Lamb forest stages near Llangurig in Powys will feature many of the classic rally routes over these fast flowing gravel roads as well as new sections giving spectators plenty of viewing choice.

"Naturally we are very pleased to announce ticket sales are considerably up compared with this time last year, but we appreciate our 'Early Bird' offer of reduced priced World Rally Passes has encouraged spectators to buy much earlier than in previous years," said Andrew Coe, chief executive of the rally organisers.

"The best value for money is the World Rally Pass and, as these are limited in number, I would recommend anyone contemplating buying one to do so early - they have sold out in recent years."
