Serbian police have arrested 11 people after a French fan was seriously injured before Thursday's Europa League match between Partizan Belgrade and Toulouse.

"The group includes the main perpetrator of the violence and the police will carry on with its vehement action to identify and detain all the culprits," Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said.

"This incident has sent a very bad picture about Serbia to the rest of the world instead of the picture it deserves as the world's most hospitable country."

Brice Taton is in a critical condition after he was rushed to hospital with multiple head and chest injuries. He underwent surgery following a clash between rival fans outside a central Belgrade bar.

The trouble erupted before Partizan's 3-2 Group J defeat by Toulouse.

In 2007 Partizan were kicked out of the UEFA Cup, the Europa League's predecessor, after fans caused trouble at Bosnian rivals Zrinjski Mostar.
