King eyes South Africa

Tottenham centre-back Ledley King is ready to answer England's World Cup call and wants a meeting with Fabio Capello to discuss South Africa.

King was given an international recall in March but his chronic knee problem meant he could not play against Slovakia or Ukraine, meaning his last cap was in June 2007.

His form for Spurs still leads to figures such as Harry Redknapp insisting the 28-year-old could make an impact for England, even if he was cover at a major tournament for John Terry and Rio Ferdinand, who themselves have had injury problems over the last season.

"First I have to be fit, second I have to be playing well," King said.

"If I am going to do things then I might want to speak to the England manager to see how I could be useful to the squad.

"If he felt that way we'd have to take it from there. I just want to stay fit for the season and play well."
