Lambert double has Saints up and running
A brace of penalties from Ricky Lambert helped Southampton to a comprehensive 2-0 win and secured an overdue first league victory for manager Alan Pardew.
Saints dominated from the off against a lacklustre Yeovil side, who are still without a win away from home under manager Terry Skiverton.
Lambert was at the heart of all Southampton's best work and he opened the scoring inside 20 minutes, coolly dispatching a penalty after Marek Saganowski was felled in the area by Terrell Forbes.
Saints continued to press but the longer a second goal took to arrive, the more nervy the home players became.
But nerves were finally settled and the result secured five minutes into the second half when Saints were on the receiving end of a seemingly fortuitous penalty.
A long ball pumped into the Yeovil area appeared to brush defender Nathan Jones' arms but despite no appeals from the Saints players, the penalty was awarded and confidently smashed past stand-in goalkeeper Richard Martin to give Southampton a richly deserved first win to edge them closer to zero points.

Hi johnson72. Pompey only have, and will move up with the new money coming our way, to 4th from bottom to stay in the prem. Saints will never see the prem again - you only beat YEOVIL TOWN - just shows how desperate you must be after all the pre season braging you lot did
And what makes this victory taste even sweeter? The scummers now hold the record for the worst start in the Premiership's 17 year history!! 'Play up Pompey'? More like 'Can't play Pompey, Pompey can't Play'!! Ha, ha, ha, ha........
AT LAST!!!!! Well done lads, now let's build on this and have more of the same please!!!
