Victoria Azarenka and Ana Ivanovic both opened their campaigns in Luxembourg with straight set victories.

Top seed Azarenka waltzed into the second round with a 6-2 6-4 victory over Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova.

Things were a little tougher for fifth-seed Ivanovic but she still came through without too much drama as she took care of France's Virginie Razzano 7-6 (2) 6-4.

Two seeds are out though with fourth seed Flavia Pennetta losing 6-3 6-2 to Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, while seventh seed Maria Kirilenko was forced to pull out of her second round match with Czech Iveta Benesova due to an ankle injury.

Sixth-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany, who was runner-up here last year, was one of the first names into the quarter-final after a 6-4 6-2 second-round victory over Austrian Tamira Paszek
