Transfers - Gossip Shop: Heinze to Liverpool

Eurosport - Wed, 19 Nov 19:24:00 2008

Age does not seem to have dimmed Sir Alex Ferguson's anger. On the contrary, he has matured into one of the grumpiest old men imaginable.

FOOTBALL Gabriel Heinze / Foto EFE - 0

Just yesterday he received a two-match touchline ban for coating referee Mike Dean in phlegm and spittle after Manchester United beat Hull.

And his face could turn a deeper shade of purple when he finds out what Liverpool have got up their sleeve.

You may remember last year, when United went out of their way not to sell Gabriel Heinze to their North-West rivals, off-loading him to Real Madrid instead.

Rafa Benitez has tried to fill the gap at left-back with several players, most recently Andrea Dossena, and all have been rubbish.

Real Madrid are in a state of civil war, with their players looking to jump ship like sailors on an oil tanker in Somali waters.

Consequently, Benitez has switched to his original target and is out to liberate Heinze from his Bernabeu hell. Or something.

Whatever, Fergie's reaction should be worth watching if Liverpool manage to move the Argentinian back into his old house in Cheshire.

Giovanni Trapattoni rates Shay Given. He has made him Republic of Ireland captain and reckons he is as good as Gianluigi Buffon.

Good news for Newcastle, right? Well, no. Trap has once again been singing Given's praises to Italy's big guns.

Milan are known to be in the market for a keeper, and Given might be keeping David Beckham company in the new year if the Serie A giants stump up £8m.

Yossi Benayoun is wanted by Spartak Moscow, Manchester City and Ajax, and Liverpool could let him leave for £6m.

Bad news for City, though - he wants to learn a new language and Mancunian doesn't count. Italian, French and Russian do. Russian, in this case, meaning roubles.

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate is a massive Bangles fan. How else to explain his pursuit of a third Egyptian - Al Alhy's Emad Meteb, who nearly signed for Everton in the summer?

Other Egyptians who could be on the move are Hosny Abd-Rabbo and Ahmed El-Muhammadi, both of whom could sample the unique delights of a trial at Blackburn Rovers.

Fulham and West Bromwich Albion are on the trail of Lech Poznan's Bosnian international midfielder Semir Stelic, who can be procured for £1.6m.

  1. I think that gossip such as the so-called transfers of over-paid footballers should be confined to April 1st "All Fools Day!"

  2. andrewjonharrison, I think you'll find Shea Given is not British. If you care to consult what we here in Ireland call a "map" you'll discover, maybe to your amazement, that Ireland is an independent country and not part of the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" and, consequently, will be a different colour to the UK, along with other "countries" such as France, Germany, Belgium and Burkina Faso. He is, in fact, "Irish". A separate group of people inhabiting the two Iarge Islands off the west coast of Europe.

  3. as always you leave Old Trafford and your career goes down the pan

  4. Heinze is not going anywhere. Ever since he arrived to Real Madrid, he has been their best defender (along with Pepe) and a leader in the dressing room. All those who says that "hes's rubbish at Real Madrid" have never watched Real Madrid play and are just talking out of their own @#$%. Heinze is one the favourites of the Bernabeu crowd and every Real fan would tell you this. He has won the title last year and has been elected best defender of the club by the fans. How's that for "being rubbish"? As for Man Utd fans who now claim that Heinze was never that good to begin with, they're just pathetic. It's the same United fans who elected Heinze as "best player of the season" in 2005-2006 and now they're trying to rewrite history and say that he was rubbish all along. Typical flip-flop Man Utd fans behaviour. If Ronaldo leaves Old Trafford for Real Madrid tomorrow, the Man Utd fans will come out and say that "Cristiano has always been rubbish anyway"!

  5. heinz to liverpool - well i NEVER saw that one coming!!!!!

  6. jonathan g, totally agree, life is taken far too seriously by some people, particularly when it's life that hasn't even happened yet. it's even more ridiculous when you realise where most of the papers' rumours come from: fan forums and other such websites. one of my mates managed to get one rumour on to the back page of the standard by finding out which website the journalist read (he worked with him) and then posted a load of made up stuff there. next day, back page. hilarious.

and as for yankeered9119, do ever actually watch liverpool? what would you give steven gerrard for diving out of ten, eleven? and no i'm not a manc and yes i think he's a great player, but come on, pot, kettle, black, mate.

From hughspurling, on Wed 19 Nov 2:24PM
  7. gerrard should never wear the england shirt ever again after his numerous displays of cheating, lying and bringing the game into disrepute...and as Cappello said...he cant understand a word he says and nor can anyone else...and thats not suitable for the position of captain...

  8. Given to Arsenal? Few flaws in that theory: 1- He is over 30, Arsene would only give him a year long contract, hence why so many older players left on bosmans when you could have made some money. 2- He is British and 3- Arsenal won't win anything so Given may aswell stay at Newcastle who look just as likely to break their run of no cups in over 30 years! Intertoto doesnt count!

From andrewjonharrison, on Wed 19 Nov 2:22PM
  9. who cares if heinze ends up wobbling around anfield...?in fact he might even become thier greatest player..after all with cheating scumbags like gerrard and callagher it would make a change to see a real premier leauge winning player in the anfield camp!

From stuartxland, on Wed 19 Nov 2:20PM
  10. I disagree. Pancake Tuesday is a great British tradition, we should keep it uo

  11. Liverpool isnt going to get anywhere this year, they got a good start but soon you will see what happens. Man City it will take them years for their to club to make a name of themself

    From antonylaing@..., on Wed 19 Nov 2:10PM
  12. damien, look at the fixtures...Liverpool can easily win their next seven games, including away to Arsenal, but I wonder if Chelski really will take the gooners out at the bridge...maybe not eh? And away to Bolton? maybe not, eh? Even though the Pool just did. Reds up 6 points at Christmas. And then we get 3 more off the Blues at Anfield.
I worry more about the mancs, actually, in terms of staying power. And diving power - they rate 10-10 for me in that department, yes they do, the cheating scumbags.

    From yankeered9119, on Wed 19 Nov 2:02PM
  13. Why do supposedly intelligent people get themselves so wound up about "made up gossip." My late father used to say: "Stop arguing about the colour of the car you haven't even looked to buy yet" Let's see how many of these so-called predictions happen in 2009? Probably 1 out 10!!

From jonathan, on Wed 19 Nov 1:55PM
  14. I reckon shay should leave, he deserves to be at a better club, arsenal should @#$% him up, he will be a good signing :D

    From antonylaing@..., on Wed 19 Nov 1:37PM
  15. 1. i dont think yossi should go, i mean all fairness to him he doesnt get played enough. for example against totenham carling cup, why? i dont know. but i do think he has the abiltity to give liverpool different options if they are getting stuck.
    2. we really do need another left back. dossena is embarrasing, no other way about it. however i do think aurelio is under rated but maybe he is not enough for liverpool this season. as for who fills the gap it doesnt bother me as long as they stop right wing attacks!! (or in replacement for dossena do atleast 1 useful thing in a match!)

  16. Liverpool may be six points clear of Man U by Xmas but they will still be behind Chelsea.

  20. That's why I rated MU and Fergie a bloody coward because why on earth he don't want any MU players moved directly to Liverpool ONLY but to Arsenal or other teams yes...come on where is the professionalism here or is he afraid ex-MU players will win Liverpool the title???shame on you Fergie United...no respect for you
