Barnsley have reached a pre-contract agreement to sign Spanish midfielder Diego Leon from Swiss side Grasshopper Zurich.The 24-year-old former Real Madrid youth player, joined German side Arminia Bielefeld in 2004 and moved to the Swiss Super League side at the beginning of the 2006/2007 season.
He will now move to Oakwell at the start of the January transfer window when his contract with the Tykes officially begins.
A statement on the Swiss club's official website said: "Diego Leon, who moved to Grasshopper Zurich at the start of the 2006/07 season, has joined Barnsley FC in the second highest league in the UK, the Championship."
"Leon's contract, which ran until June 2009, has been terminated after mutual agreement between the club and player.
"Leon will move immediately to the English club."
