SEAT ace turns teacher with young drivers.

HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship runner-up Jason Plato admits he was shocked at the poor standard of driving after being invited to take part in TV show on the dangers posed by young motorists driving at speed.

The SEAT Sport UK driver appeared on ITV1's 'Tonight' programme and sat alongside a number of young drivers as they took to the track at Silverstone to show off their 'skills'.

However, it's safe to say that none of them are likely to be joining Plato on a race track in the near future, with the former champion admitting that he was shocked at just how bad some of the youngsters actually were.

"We had four or five young drivers who really thought they were the best in the world," he said. "I had to tell them 'you're not, you're dangerous' and show them why. I was appalled at how bad they were, but eventually I think we got through to them."

"There are two things blokes think they're great at. One is driving cars, but unless we practice at it we're not. The average motorist isn't actually a very good driver. It's nothing to be ashamed of. People are fine getting from A-to-B, but cars now are so accomplished that people can end up reaching much higher speeds than in the past quite comfortably and it's a recipe for disaster."
