Steve Banks has urged Vladimir Romanov to hand Stephen Frail the Hearts manager's job after Saturday's Edinburgh derby triumph over Hibernian. The goalkeeper believes the team has shown a marked improvement since Frail - nicknamed 'Shaggy' for his resemblance to the Scooby-Doo character - was promoted from assistant coach to caretaker boss.
Romanov is on the hunt for a new manager and Banks believes reckons there would be no complaints from the dressing room if Frail was installed at the helm on a permanent basis.
He said: "You can see by the way the lads are performing for him that they are right up for him being the manager. If that happens, we will be more than happy with it.
"Shaggy has backed us on things and he has tried to do the best for us and the lads are buzzing at the moment.
"Training has changed completely as in how the lads are going about it and it's a good place to be at the moment.
"We all know Shaggy and we know what he's about and we know his heart and soul is in the place.
"He shows that when we are with him on the training pitch every day and in matches, and that has probably rubbed off on us a little bit.
"We want to do it for him and it's a good start for us."
Andrius Velicka grabbed the only goal of the game following a gaffe from Hibs goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay.
Velicka met Christophe Berra's flick-on with a diving header and Ma-Kalambay juggled with the ball, allowing the effort to squirt over the line.
As well as the all-important bagging rights, the win allowed Hearts to move up one place to 10th in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
Banks said: "We fought hard. The desire was there, the passion was there. We played well in patches and defended for our lives and came out with a win that I think we deserved."
The win also provided a rare clean sheet this season and Banks added: "It means a lot to me and the back four.
"It's pleasing to get a clean sheet, especially against your rivals. The lads in front of me did very well and hopefully I just backed them up and gave them a bit of confidence and shored them up at the back. I didn't have too many saves to make, really."
Meanwhile, Ma-Kalambay refused to take the blame for gifting all three points to Hearts.
He said: "I'm not upset about it. It's not like I made a mistake or anything. Sometimes as a goalkeeper that's what happens.
"We have to look at why a guy got the cut-back from the corner. We can't allow someone to have a header back across goal. I'm not looking for someone to blame.
"It's not about an individual mistake. The whole team should have done better."
