Referee Pat Miller was thinking of the players' "health and safety" when he called off the clash between Colchester and Hull City.Miller postponed the match at Layer Road after a 12.30pm pitch inspection, in which he described the pitch as "unsafe"
He told Colchester's official website: "From above it doesn't look too bad, but once we're actually out there and I've been running and moving with the ball. There are areas that are unsafe.
"The groundsman has been working hard, but unfortunately the rain got the better of us.
"With football at this level there is a lot at stake and I have to take into consideration the health and safety of the players and officials.
The last thing we want to do is the headlines for the wrong reasons."
A date for the rearranged game is yet to be set.
