Sun 20 Jan, 06:46 PM

Manager Steve Tilson praised strikers Gary Hooper and Tommy Black after Southend's 4-1 demolition of bottom-placed Bournemouth. The Shrimpers went ahead in the 18th minute when a shot from Simon Francis was parried by goalkeeper Gareth Stewart into the path of Mark Gower to score.

Francis himself scored the second in the 23rd minute before Black and Hooper added to Bournemouth's misery by completing the rout.

Tilson said: "The difference between the teams was that we took our chances, particularly in the first half and Bournemouth did not.

"To score four goals away from home is always fantastic and I thought our two front runners did very well and it is good that they scored."
