CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy (AFP) - Austria's Maria Holaus notched up her maiden World Cup win with a victory in the Super-G here on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Austrian finished in 1min 24.63sec, 0.23sec ahead of American Julia Mancuso, with Nicole Hosp, also of Austria, a further 0.05sec adrift in third.
Before Sunday's success, Holaus' best previous performance came in the World Cup downhill race in San Sicario, Italy, in January last year where she bagged third place.
"I am very proud to win a World Cup race, it was a dream of mine as a child," said Holaus.
"It's been a long time coming, I knew I have been skiing fast of late and today was my lucky day," added Holaus, who has been racked by injuries over the past couple of seasons.
Mancuso was satisfied with her runners-up spot and was looking to the second Super-G on Monday to get off the mark in terms of wins this season.
"The snow was soft when I took to the course, but I skied well," the American said.
"I didn't really make any errors and I am happy with the podium spot even if I am still waiting for my first win of the season."
