CC: They've lost that winning feeling

Wed 20 Feb, 12:30 PM

Chris Coleman insists his first task as Coventry manager will be to restore the players' belief and confidence after a draining run of results. The former Fulham and Real Sociedad boss was appointed as Iain Dowie's successor on Tuesday, taking charge of a team precariously perched above the Championship relegation zone after a desperate run of seven defeats in their last 10 league matches.

Coleman's first game in charge will be the visit of fellow strugglers, and Midlands rivals, Leicester at the weekend - and the Welshman wants his inherited squad to remember what it is like to win.

"First of all we have got to get that winning feeling back and get them to win as a team to get three points and a bit of confidence because they have lost a lot of games recently and we have got to put a stop to that," said Coleman. "I have been there as a player myself and if you lose week in, week out, you start to lose a bit of belief.

"It doesn't matter how good a player you are, as soon as that creeps in it is very difficult to change that around. Equally, when you start winning, you breed that winning mentality and that is hard to shake off as well.

"So, the three points is more important than a good performance at the minute. We have got to get the guys to believe that they can win a game."
