Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed their undersoil heating was in action but proved ineffective ahead of the postponed match with Coventry.Head groundsman Steve Kiddy revealed Hillsborough's undersoil heating system had been operating for several days, but referee Craig Porter still had no option other than to call the game off.
Kiddy said: "We've had the undersoil heating working to capacity for the past three days at 40 degrees.
"I think the penetrative frosts and extreme temperatures we experienced overnight put paid to the game.
"We just can't get the frost out of the pitch, even with the undersoil heating working to capacity, so it has just beaten us on this occasion."
