Trollope: Rovers will stay focused

Wed 20 Feb, 02:47 PM

Bristol Rovers manager Paul Trollope is confident that the dream of Wembley will not distract his players from climbing the League One table. The Pirates reached the sixth round of the cup for the first time in 50 years by overcoming Southampton 1-0 at the Memorial Stadium at the weekend.

The lowest-ranked side remaining in the competition - Rovers are currently 17th in League One - will face West Brom for a place in the semi-finals on March 9.

Trollope's side have three games in hand over many of their league rivals and winning them all would put Rovers firmly in the play-off picture and Trollope insists that remains the priority.

"Obviously the West Brom game is going to be at the back of everybody's minds, but we won't be concentrating on it until it actually arrives," said Trollope. "If we had drawn Manchester United or Chelsea away, it would probably be very different.

"But the lads are very calm about it and we have had a chat about it to make sure they were focused on preparations for Tranmere on Saturday."
