A thrilling 2-2 draw with Charlton at the weekend meant the Hornets relinquished top spot on goal difference to Stoke - the third time the lead has changed hands in the space of a week.

"It will go to the wire," Boothroyd told the Watford Observer. "Stoke are on a terrific run, Bristol [City] keep confounding the critics, West Brom are the best footballing team in the division and Charlton have got the strength in depth.

"I'm sure Ipswich will be in there so anything can happen. It's important we take points off these teams.

"Someone will have a blip sooner or later and we've just got to make sure it isn't us."

Watford are second ahead of Bristol City, who snatched an equalising goal deep into injury-time against Crystal Palace On Monday night.

West Brom, Charlton and Ipswich are fourth-fifth and sixth respectively.
